Norway's Doomsday Vault

Interesting idea, but don't most seeds have a life of a few years? They'd better be restocking and rearranging the vault yearly. :call:

Properly dried and stored seeds can last indefinetaly.

That's not what I've heard. But maybe I heard wrong.

I was under the assumption that if they're dry for too long, the seeds lose their ability to sprout. I'm a total layman here, but I would like to know more answers to questions like these so I can store my own heirlooms.

The seeds can last a very long time, but the germination rates plummets. I've heard of wheat found in Egyptian tombs sprouting, don't know if it's true or not.

When I was a kid the pastor at our church had some wheat that he had planted in his garden that was 7 generations from viable wheat seeds found in an Egyptian tomb that was suppose to be thousands of years old.

True the germination rates plummet but if properly humidified then you can hold that off.
